Creative sleep

One of the best outcomes of good sleep is increased creativity. While countless studies have shown a significant correlation between improving sleep quality and increasing creativity and a more enabling state of mind, some of the most famous art pieces were actually created as a result of chronic insomnia and lack of sleep.

Moreover, neurological studies regarding the effects of sleep deprivation on mental and cognitive state confirm the suspected connection between poor sleep and poor physical and mental state. Furthermore, conclusion has been shown that prolonged insufficient sleep leads to lower cognitive performance and higher illness rate, regarding anxiety, depression, cardiovascular disease and even sudden death.

First, the one that earned its first place in this article - The Starry Night (1889). Although becoming famous for the state-of-the-art art techniques used at that time, this masterpiece was created by Van Goch, who was known to live through the night and occasionally sleep during daytime. In some ways, this painting might evoke the feeling of being chronically deprived.

On to the next masterpiece, created by Salvador Dali, who’s works are frequently interpreted as reflecting his sleep deprivation through an overall representation of being in a dream state, having difficulties with creating a concrete perception of the reality.

Not staying behind, Pablo Piccaso joined the trend, and created several sleep related paintings. Here presenting his “Head of a Sleeping Woman” (Oil on canvas, 1907), also reflecting the calmness through facial expression and the choice of colors.

Well, while we always wish you to have a good night’s sleep, we find comfort in knowing that even some of the most creative artists also had trouble sleeping and managed to make the best out of it, expressing their creativity, frustration and feelings in a way we all know to this day as masterpieces.

Wishing you a meaningful well being

And a good night’s sleep
