The good news: EMF from a wireless charger drops off sharply with distance. The radiation field only extends about 3 inches (7-8 cm) from the charging pad. Beyond that range, the measurable field approaches zero.

This means if the charger is on your nightstand and your head is on your pillow 2 to 3 feet away, the direct EMF exposure to your body is minimal.

But here is the problem most people miss: your phone is the secondary emitter. When your phone receives the wireless charge, it also produces its own EMF. And if you reach over in the middle of the night to check a notification, you are now holding an actively charging device inches from your face.

5 Ways to Reduce EMF Exposure From Your Wireless Charger

You do not have to give up wireless charging. You just need to be smarter about it.

1. Move It 3+ Feet From Your Head

The simplest fix. Place the charging pad on a desk or dresser across the room, not on the nightstand right next to your pillow. EMF drops to nearly zero at that distance.

2. Use a Timer or Smart Plug

Your phone reaches full charge in 2 to 3 hours. A smart plug can cut power to the charger after midnight, eliminating EMF for the rest of the night.

3. Switch to Airplane Mode Before Bed

This does not reduce charger EMF, but it eliminates the phone's own RF radiation (cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth), which is often a bigger source of nighttime EMF than the charger itself.

4. Choose a Charger With Built-In EMF Shielding
