Tip #56: Measure your own sleep

Tip #56: Measure your own sleep

We constantly discuss the importance of quality sleep and provide you with practical tips to enhance your sleep hygiene and enjoy better quality of sleep. This time we’ve gathered 3 science-based indications you can use to tell if your sleep actually improved.

First - natural awakening

Opening your eyes “just like that”, before the alarm had its chance to ring, with the feeling of your body telling you it’s done charging and now ready for a brand new day. This might appear obvious to some people, but sleep deprived individuals do not experience such awakenings. Reaching to a point when your body knows to signal when having enough rest is a very good indication for the quality of your sleeping habits.

Second - consistent duration

All of the data regarding the recommended amount of sleep, sometimes seems like science fiction. To be honest, our bodies never read the sleep encyclopedia and when we feel tired, we just feel tired. Yet, it’s widely proven that sufficiently-slept individuals tend to sleep the exact amount of time recommended according to their age group and other relevant criteria. Therefore, once a proper sleep hygiene is established, and optimal sleep quality is reached - the accurate amount of sleep naturally becomes part of the equation.

Third - better dreams

Not only a common belief, but also scientifically validated, the content of our dreams correlates with our daily mental and physical state. However, the quality of sleep also influences the extent of these emotional manifestations. In times of stress, dreams may mirror the stress level, yet high quality of sleep relatively softens their intensity, providing better conditions to refresh our minds and release tension through our dreams.

Wishing you a good night’s sleep
